1. Introduction

Pemo ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy and personal information. This Privacy Policy details how we collect, use, store, protect, and in certain circumstances, share your information. Please read this policy carefully to understand how we handle your personal data. By using Pemo's services, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information Collection

As a tool that primarily runs locally, Pemo only collects user information in limited circumstances:

2.1 Account Registration

  • Email address: Used to create your account, sign you in, send necessary service notifications, and help manage billing or support requests

2.2 Issue Feedback and Technical Support

  • Device information: Including but not limited to operating system, Pemo version number, device model, etc., used for diagnosing and resolving technical issues
  • Error logs: Containing error information from application runtime, used to identify and fix software issues
  • Other information you actively provide: Such as problem descriptions, screenshots, and support context

2.3 Payment Information

  • Information collection and processing during payment is handled entirely by Stripe (our payment processor) according to their privacy policy
  • We do not store your complete credit card information

2.4 Usage Analytics (Optional)

  • Anonymous usage statistics: Such as feature usage frequency, application performance data, etc., used to improve the product (you can opt out in settings)

2.5 Browser Extension

  • Current page information: When you use the Pemo Browser Extension, it may process the current tab URL, page title, canonical URL, page metadata, and visible page content so it can create a note.
  • User-captured content: If you choose to capture or save content, the extension may process selected text, page text, visible comments, screenshots, image URLs or image files, video metadata, and available subtitles.
  • Local extension data: Pending captures, local note drafts, screenshot assets, image assets, save preferences, and data used to remember the desktop app connection are stored locally on your device. This local connection data is stored in Chrome local storage and is not synced through your Chrome account.
  • Cookies: The extension does not request the Chrome cookies permission. It does not collect, read, transmit, sell, or share browser authentication cookies.

3. Information Use

The limited information we collect is only used to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve Pemo services
  • Respond to your inquiries and provide customer support
  • Send service-related notifications, updates, and security alerts
  • Process and complete transactions
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues or abusive behavior
  • Comply with legal requirements

4. Information Storage and Security

  • Local data: Your documents, notes, and most usage data are stored on your local device. We cannot access this data unless you actively share it with us.
  • Cloud data: The limited information we collect (such as email addresses) is stored on secure servers, protected by industry-standard encryption and security measures.
  • Data retention: We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary, unless a longer retention period is required by law.

5. Information Sharing

We value your privacy and do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • With Stripe for necessary payment information
  • With your explicit consent
  • To comply with legal requirements, court orders, or government requests
  • To protect our rights, property, or safety, as well as the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public
  • In the event of a company transaction (e.g., merger, acquisition, or asset sale), but we will notify you and provide options

5.1 Browser Extension Data Sharing

  • Captured browser content is sent only when you choose a save, sync, or export action.
  • When you save to Pemo, captured content is sent to the Pemo desktop app running locally on your device.
  • When saving user-visible images or subtitles, the extension may request those resources from the original website. These requests do not intentionally include site credentials.
  • Pemo does not sell extension user data or transfer it to advertising platforms, data brokers, or information resellers.
  • Pemo's use of information received from Chrome extension APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • Access personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Delete your personal information (where legally permissible)
  • Object to or restrict our processing of your personal information
  • Data portability
  • Withdraw consent (where applicable)
  • Opt out of our marketing communications

7. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to improve user experience. You can control cookie usage through your browser settings.

The Pemo Browser Extension does not use the Chrome cookies API and does not access browser authentication cookies.

Pemo's services are not intended for children under 13. If we inadvertently collect personal information from children, we will immediately delete such information.

9. International Data Transfers

While Pemo primarily runs locally, the limited information we collect may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post any significant changes on the Pemo website and application, and notify you via email when appropriate.
